It's a time for seniors to celebrate not only their achievements, but their graduation. It shouldn't matter how much money is put into, everyone is accepted. Plus, the sterotype that everyone gets "drunk" is ridiculous. Some people actually have brain sense and realize it's not worth it. Don't get me wrong though, I do enjoy getting dressed up and feeling extra pretty so I understand why girls go over the top. Either way, prom is an experience in life that we all should live through and we only live once, so why not feel like royalty for one night?
