New Park Staff
October 5, 2009 • written by Nick Maher
Park High School has experienced a lot of changes this year. A new start time, a new sophomore and freshman class, a new competing high school, a new entry way. With all of these alterations, we opened our freshly built doors to a variety of new teachers and staff as well.
We have added about thirty-five new faces to our faculty. These teachers were not only hired for the added class of ninth graders, but to also compensate for the teachers that were moved to East Ridge High School. Almost every subject has a new member. To help you get familiarized with the new group, some of the staff agreed to share a bit about themselves.
Mr. Klingner, commonly known as Senor K, is a familiar man for some, and a stranger to others. This Spanish teacher transferred over from Cottage Grove Middle School this year to teach Spanish 2 and 3. For three years he had been teaching Spanish 1 to ninth graders. Jumping from a junior high to a high school is a big difference.
“The kids are bigger, there are more teachers, and it’s a lot ‘funner,’” said Mr. Klingner.
Not only is he dealing with a new group of students, but also a new family. Last fall, Senor K got married to his fiancé, Rita. Those who know Senor K would say that he is a humorous teacher who enjoys speaking the Spanish language. In his spare time, he likes photography, listening to music, and hanging with friends.
Mr. Anderson has joined the Wolfpack as well. Teaching Chemistry and ninth grade Physics, this guy has a knack for science. Fresh out of the University of Minnesota with his bachelor’s degree in Science and Chemistry, Anderson has a lot to get used to. “I didn’t expect there to be so many absences,” he said looking at his room.
Being a science teacher isn’t just test tubes and the periodic table. Mr. Anderson likes to play on the Wii. He has mastered all Zelda games known to man! He is surely a teacher you would want to have a class with.
One of our welcomed math teachers is Mrs. Haugen. After teaching for two years at Como Park High School in Saint Paul, she came here to teach FST and Algebra 1. Mrs. Haugen said that she was glad to switch to Park High School.
“The students here are polite and respectful and the staff was very welcoming,” she said.
Even when the calculators are put away, Mrs. Haugen takes part in many activities. She enjoys playing basketball and listening to live music. Lately, Mrs. Haugen discovered her love for running, and even ran in a marathon. She has even developed a love for travel. This past summer, she visited four European countries in three weeks. Amidst these various interests, she always finds time for her family. This is truly an interesting teacher.
These are just a select few of the various teachers who have joined the Park High School staff. It will take a while to get used to the new educators and counselors, let alone, remember their names. Yet, we welcome them with open arms as we begin a new school year.
