Letter to the Editor: A Sophomore Prom

April 23, 2009 • written by a Sophomore

I’ve been thinking along with a bunch of friends that we should have a sophomore formal of some kind, like prom probably less spendy something that we can do some kind of fund raiser for. This class is somewhat close and we’re pretty good too, but we don’t get to graduate together, friends are separating from friends boyfriends and girlfriends are being separated too and we just want some sort of formal together, a goodbye to those who are leaving.

we’ve already have made up somethings on facebook 10th grade prom is one of them and the other is Masquerade Ball (Sophomores), this shows that we want this, we deserve this, we’re getting split up and it’s hard!

we’re even willing to have fund raisers for this we want more people to know so they can just say yeah it’s good, I’m not the only one thinking there’s around 111 members of one of the groups on facebook… no one wants to take a stand but maybe this will do something.

What do you think, Park?  Should the sophomores have their own prom?  Post your comments below.

Look we all know that the 10 graders are getting slipt up get over it!!!! I mean seriouly now there will be no more 9th grade Flower Ball you don’t see the 8th graders complaining about that, so I say so what what makes you 10th graders think your so special??

I don’t think one has to be rude about it. (Talking about above comment.) But maybe a picnic or something would be better? It takes all year to plan the prom so why not just have something small to say goodbye? Upperclassman have the right for prom unless you are a date and I think we should respect that but I also don’t think it is polite to completely disregard someones idea. A goodbye of sorts would be awesome, and maybe the 8th graders will get a flowerball? You don;t have any proof that they won’t.

Getting split up isn’t the only thing that 10th graders are going to have to deal with. We also being forced into a later start time,we are loosing the 4 period day, We could be loosing our off campus lunch privilages, etc. The class of 2011 is going to see more change over the next 2 years than any other class in the history of our district, what more will they take away from us? You can’t tell me that you wouldn’t be mad if you were in this position. I don’t think that we should get as much as our own prom, but i feel like we are owed somthing, especialy after not getting an orientation untill the first day of school, what a disaster. You haven’t gone through any of this, nor do you have to. Think about how you would feel if you were in this situation, before you draw conclusions Gabby.

P.S. we don’t think were special or better than any other class, we just feel like we’ve been robbed.
