Fashionista Alert: Who is our favorite French Girl?
March 19, 2009 • written by Molly Lease
Name: Laure Amzallag
If you’re looking for a spunky, short, outgoing French girl, you’ve found her. Laure Amzallag is a foreign exchange student from France who has come to Park bringing a whole new meaning to the word FASHIONABLE. She rocks out her tights paired with shorts, flowy tops, and ballet flats most days of the week. Other days you can find her bouncing around in a cute dress or working her skinny jeans. Amzallag’s style is carefree and so is her personality.
Where are you from?
Paris, France
Why did you come to America?
To learn English. I wanted to do a year in a foreign country; I could only go to the US. They told me it was the only open spot left because I signed up late. I was so excited when I found out, but I had no idea where I was going in America.
Where originally did you hope stay?
Berlin, but I already know German.
What do you think of the fashions here?
In France, we don’t have the school spirit clothing. It’s so weird to see that. I feel girls are wearing pj’s all day. I was so shocked. People look at me weird for how I dress, but in France, I’m normal. I’m not dressy.
What is your favorite American store? How would you describe their style?
Forever 21, Urban Outfitters. The clothes are from European style. It’s cheaper here than it is in France.
What kind of outfits did you wear in France?
The same. I would never wear these shoes in France because they are so big. Like my boots, I would never wear them in France. I bought them for here.
What was your favorite store in France? What was their style like?
H&M. It’s really popular there. We shop in a district, there are no malls. I also like Zara. Mango. I buy more dresses than pants.
How would you describe French fashion?
Not complicated. The girl’s basic outfit is Skinny Jeans, some Ballet flats, and a nice flowy top. It’s more flowy.
Do American movies portray American fashion well?
Yeah, but I didn’t know about the pajamas.
Do French movies?
Yeah, I think so. There aren’t many popular French movies here. It depends on the movie you see.
What did you like best about American style?
I can wear whatever I want. Even if people look at me I think “I’m French!” I just don’t like the slippers for school.
What do you like least?
Nothing. There’s nothing I don’t like. It’s different. That is why I came. There are like no skinny jeans on girls. That’s different.
What did you like best about French style?
Everything. It’s different everyday. When I go shopping, I like most stores.
What do you like least?
We all look the same. It’s the same in America only more expensive. Most ask if I shop at Chanel and I say No! Because it’s so expensive and its usually old people that shop there. I never go there.
How would you describe your style, more American or French?
French.
What style will you take back to France?
My senior sweatshirt. I will wear it in France. Most of the clothes I bought here I will wear. They are more of the French style and they were cheaper here than in France. I won’t wear my boots, or these big shoes.
What kind of advice would you give American girls about fashion?
I don’t want to change their style to try and go along with mine. Dress how you want. I don’t like to judge. I would just say to do something different. I’m going to stay with my French style. :]
