Students Show PHS Spirit
October 7, 2008
Last week, as most people know, was not only Homecoming week, but spirit week! Within the week were five special dress-up days: Dress Your Best day, Construction Crew day, Homecoming T-Shirt day, Famous Person/ Character day, and Park Pride day. So it’s time to recap the spirited that displayed pride for the school and dressed to impress!
Monday: Guys and Girls alike broke out those dresses, skirts, heels, suit coats, dress pants, dress shoes and (matching) socks, and even tuxes from the back of their closets for Dress Your Best day. This day was based on Coronation, which occurred during second hour. Some of the amazing outfits I observed were: a few guys in matching tuxes with shiny purple vests, and they seemed to shine while wearing them. I also saw many girls rocking some hot dresses and skirts and also some pretty amazingly high heels.
Tuesday: Still recuperating from blisters and calluses from yesterday’s not-so-often-worn shoes, people managed to slip into something a bit more comfortable. That’s right, it was construction worker day. It seemed to be a sea of plaid shirts paired with bright orange and green fluorescent vests with yellow or orange hats. Some people even attached a tool belt to their hips, getting even more into character than expected.
Wednesday: Time for those Danger Zone t-shirts we’ve all been dying to wear since we got them! It was like a school twin day with every participant. Some went even further and got some crazy socks to pair with the shirts. It seemed that all who either forgot to wear their shirts or decided against it were green with envy over those who did.
Thursday: Unlike Gossip Girl, no one had to ask who the participants of this day were. Famous Person/ Character day was an absolute hit! I noticed five Harry Potter characters, heard a rumor of a Pokemon character, a Sarah Palin, and saw a few of Mrs. Zamora’s students (and Mrs. Zamora herself) wearing a Snoopy Hat with matching hands and feet. Something that caught me off guard was the teachers really didn’t dress up for this day. How non-spirited of them!
Friday: Park Pride day! There were so many participants, with so many outfits! One of the more original were the Powder-Puff football girls who all dressed in uniform. I also saw many other homemade outfits that stood out in a crowd. And some that weren’t so much homemade, as home-painted or home-sprayed. Either way, you could tell by the outfits that the pride was clear: participants were definitely supporting the Pack on the day of the big game.
I guess it’s official: Spirit Week was a complete success! For those who participated: amazing job and a round of applause, you definitely made spirit week worth waiting and longing for. And for the rest who wanted to dress up but felt a little dorky about it, there is always next year…unless you’re a senior…
