On Tuesday night, at 7:00, November 9th, the annual fall fashion show at Park High School’s auditorium began. Each attendant had to pay a two-dollar fee, where the money would to PNN. The money goes to PNN because they are “the ones in charge of the set-up, lights and music for the fall fashion show,” Sharon Jerome, the advisor of the show, had said.

While interviewing the designer, a few weeks before the fashion show, Nikki Lee, 15, seemed absolutely exuberant in answering any questions asked of her. She explained that Sandra Yang was the starter of the fall fashion show three years ago. She had started it during her junior year at Park. Lee soon took over once Yang graduated. Lee took the designer position of the fashion show because it would be a “good step and experience in [a] fashion designing career.” Lee also added that, “I [sewed one dress]… about eight times. I had trouble sewing it.” She didn’t take credit for all of the designing and sewing though.

Angelia Vang, 17, and a senior at East Ridge High School helped Lee with making the clothes for the fashion show. The fabric had come from thrift stores, which Lee and Vang had both fixed up to their preferences.

Glamour Galore, the opener to the fashion show, had clothes lent from Kohls’, which was what the fashion show represented. The theme was a wonderful name for the clothing style that was glamorous and seemed like it belonged in a wardrobe for a movie.

The next theme that came up was Fairy Princess Whimsical. For those clothing, it was “glamified,” but instead of black and white colors, there were bursts of colors, fabric and frilly parts sewed onto the dresses. Each girl wore a pair of wings, the last model, Pun Chang, wore the largest wings; white with sparkling light on it, seemingly the only light in the dark. There was a story line behind that. The fairy princesses would each come out, one at a time with “really pretty dresses and small wings… It’ll be a dramatic irony… especially when Pun comes out with the glittering wings on.”

The fashion show didn’t just show clothes and models walking around on the auditorium, posing for pictures, but also all of the clubs at Park. People in their named clubs would represent themselves and a few groups had performed as well.

A photo shoot took place on Wednesday, October 27. Sadly, a few models were missing. It did not seem to distress Nikki Lee, 15, the designer of the Fall Fashion Show on November 9. She continued on with the photo shoot for the upcoming fashion show.

The photo shoot was not full of ‘Lights-Camera and Action’, but a lively environment with much laughter. Everyone seemed delighted in posing for the cameras. The models themselves seemed to blend in naturally in front of the camera, mess-ups or no.

Mena Lee, 16, said that the clothes for the fashion show were “really creative and different. You wouldn’t see them in stores.” Looking at sketches of the designs, they had indeed looked unique. “The clothes are amazing,” Ricky Yang, 16, commented. “Especially with Nikki creating and making them.”

For Heidi Ruiz, 17, it is a different matter. “The clothes matches with my sense of humor.” She had said. When asked about why she chose to model for the fashion show, Ruiz replied, “That’s what I’ve been doing for two years; [Modeling], meeting people, and learning about fashion.” Gal Chang, 14, is a model as well. It wasn’t her first time modeling either. She had said that she began modeling because people in her family model as well. “I want to show the world my beauty. I want people to have more confidence in themselves too. And I like to model.”

Lee had said that this was not the first time she had modeled. “I modeled last year at Sandra’s fashion show.” She also admitted, “Honestly, I just wanted to try something new. I just want to be a part of something within school.”

As the photo shoot progressed, Jesse Lo, 16, the photographer, snapped pictures while Nikki Lee and the models talked about how they should pose. He had a few mishaps, but worked finely. Nikki Lee even took pictures with the camera herself. They took pictures of the girls grouped together first.

While that was going on, Bee Chang, 16, was interviewed. He entered the modeling ground at Park High School, “’Cause I’m hot and you know it. I’m not even lying.” Chang continued on, saying that Ashton Kutcher was his influence. “I’m not even lying,” he repeated. “He’s hot.” The clothes he wore to the photo shoot were his own clothes and “stylish” as he had said. He also added, “I am Bee Chang and I am number one. I love Kristin Vang.”

The fashion show is on November 9. The cost is two dollars and it starts at seven p.m., ending around nine p.m.

Ugg Boots – Fashion Do or Don’t?

Whether you’re a fan or not – it seems as the Ugg boot fashion trend will not end. Ugg-style boots, called “fugg boots”, were first worn by World War I pilots. Genuine Ugg boots are made of 100% sheepskin, they are loose and comfortable plus, and they keep your feet at a constant temperature. Therefore, it was practical for pilots to wear them. In the ‘30s, sheep shearers from Australia wore Uggs to keep their feet warm; in the ‘60s surfers wore them to keep them warm to and from the ocean. After that, the Ugg boot was being produced all throughout Australia. Ugg Boots were introduced to America mainly because Pamela Anderson started wearing them to keep warm during her breaks in filming the television show – Baywatch. Yet, the boots did not become popular until 2003 because of an American Company called Ugg Australia.

The original Ugg boot was made from three pieces of material – one for each of the sides and one for the sole. Now, the Ugg boots come in short, long, and have rubber outside soles. Yahoo’s 11 worst fashion trends of the decade put the boots at number 6 stating, “Uggs went from trendy to just plain ugg-ly.” Even though Yahoo thinks Uggs are a fashion don’t, it doesn’t seem like the fad is going to end anytime soon.

This year as you wander halls of Park High, notice the trends the girls are sporting. The UGG boots, the teased hair, the wrists with fifteen bracelets on them and so on. But the thing that really catches my eye is the flowers girls are wearing in their hair. The strange thing about it is that, this fashion wasn’t really popular at Park until the winter time. It seems that we long for spring to come, and that there is something about this winter that just isn’t fulfilling us. There are big flowers, little flowers, purple flowers, green flowers, yellow flowers, pink flowers. It’s a great way to spice up your winter wardrobe. Not daring enough to put a flower in your hair? Well that’s okay; try a colorful headband or a dazzling hair clip. There are tons of ways to add a little color in your life till the sun comes out again.
