Video Announcements to make a comeback

“Good Morning Park High school” is a line the students of Park High school are used to hearing every morning. But in the past it wasn’t just something that the students had heard, but they also saw the anchors on the television.
It was something that many staff and students were happy to see, but after June 2008 the video announcements had, to put it simple, disappeared off the television sets.
“In order to make room for the new ventilation system any obstructions had to be removed in order to allow the opportunity for the workers to go in,” the Assistant Principal of Park, Rob Bach, said, “Essentially what that meant was that the TVs that were in every classroom had to be moved, so we haven’t had the ability to broadcast it in every room.”
“We kept being given later dates, but things happen,” Sharon Jerome, the lead coordinator of the video program at Park High school said, “You just don’t know everything that’s going to happen.”
Although the video announcements have been down, behind the scenes many things have been improved and prepared to eventually go back on the air.
“The improvements actually come from the kids themselves,” Jerome said, “and now Mr. Hofmann is involved this year and he can help us with many things for the anchors.”
Jerome has also been working on new projects since the video announcements have been down. One project being a monthly news program called “Howlin’ from Park,” which involves many students to create and shoot their own stories of what is going around Park High school.
Although most of these new projects have kept most of the students interested in video busy, it still is very hard on some of them to take one step back. A question on most staff and student’s minds are wondering when we will be able to see the technology be fully put back into use.
“We hire a company to come in to the high school and be able to install all of those things back in,” Bach said, “but I imagine within a couple of weeks most of those things should be back up and in place.”
Unfortunately last year’s seniors, whom were excited to go back onto the video announcements, were not able to take part due to construction delays.
“I felt badly for the kids last year because they really wanted to do it,” said Jerome, “but life sometimes isn’t fair.”
As time closes in for those TV sets to be turned on to broadcast the announcements, the students both on and off camera are on their feet ready to be back in business. It has been anticipated for a long time to finally hit that switch for the studio cameras.
“I think it was a great program for us,” Bach said “and I’d love to see some kind of program be put back into place once we’re technologically ready.”
“It allows so much more room for creativity and learning when video is involved” Jerome said.
