Nothing Can Stop Me Now
December 4, 2008 • written by Gerard van Wijk
I arrived on this planet in the scorching deserts of Namibia.
As soon as that got old, I flew-across the ocean-to the Land of the Brave, Home of the Free.
Soon, they kicked me out.
I was too good for them,
But they knew, and I knew, and we all knew,
I would be back; my time would come.
I fled to their home and native land,
O, Canada! I stood on guard for thee.
After some downtime, I ran back to the so-called Promised Land.
I returned with a vengeance.
Not everyone showed their excitement at my return,
Hijacking eagles of metal, flying them into the Legs of the World.
I could not be deterred; I never will be.
Not even broken dreams or shattered hopes
Will destroy my will, my determination to remain here, in my home
Where Ego-Tripped poets and Cash-Hungry salesmen
Strive to live their dreams in their Freely Brave world.
I shall not be moved.
Here I am, take your shot.
My time is now. What more have you got?
I give and I take. I love and I hate.
What you shoot at me is only second-rate.
I am the worst of your fears, the best of your dreams; and
Nothing can stop me now.

huh??????
It was an assignment in Ms. Peichel’s creative writing class where we had to write a poem inspired by “Ego Tripping” by Nikki Giovanni. This is my ego-trip.
