Park Students Manufacture Windchimes
December 15, 2008 • written by PHS Manufacturing and Engineering Class
The Manufacturing and Engineering Technology Class of Park High School is manufacturing hand crafted wind chimes as a class project. As a class (company) students have gone through research and design problems, material selection, cost analysis, step by step procedures in production, individual skills’ evaluation, and the importance of safety and team work. Students have worked through the manufacturing process and have built templates and jigs to ensure a high quality finished product. Wherever possible they used donated or recycled materials to be environmentally responsible and save money on production cost. To ensure quality control, students monitored production and made adjustments where needed. Students built prototypes to determine procedures as well as choice of materials to bring you the most functional and best sounding wind chime possible. Purchased products will most likely come to you in a grocery bag instead of a box designed for the product. Again this seemed both environmentally responsible as well as cost effective. A wolf paw print will be printed on both sides of the wind catcher. Student engineers are offering an original style with silver colored tubes for $11.95. A similar wind chime made out of copper tubing is being offered for $19.95.
